WHAT IS IT?

This is a 2-way, 2-position, D.C. Solenoid-operated, normally closed, hydraulic Valve. It has some distinction among other aircraft-quality Valves by its use of screw-type terminals in place of the more typical pin-type connectors. This design is compatible with a water-alcohol mixture but can be adapted to other fluids including all aviation fuels and diesel oil. The Valve Body is anodized aluminum. All other surfaces are stainless steel or plated ferro-magnetics. The Coil is vacuum impregnated with an epoxy resin. The unit weighs 14 ounces.
HOW DOES IT WORK?

In the de-energized mode the Return Spring, together with supply pressure, act to hold the Armature/Poppet Assembly against the integral Seat in the Body. The poppet is a hard elastomer which deforms slightly to form a leak-tight seal. Upon the application of 18-31 VDC to the Coil, the electro-magnetic force acting through the Armature/Poppet Assembly withdraws the Armature against the Spring and Pressure forces, opening the Valve. The flow rate @ 15 psig is equivalent to an orifice of .065 in DIA and Cd of .65.
HOW IS IT USED?
This design is used in an aircraft windshield de-icing system. The pilot operates a manual control which signals the Valve to release a fixed pulse of de-icing fluid directly onto each side of the main windshield. Valves of similar design are used in aircraft fuel transfer and shut-off systems. This unit is in the VALUE-VALVE SERIES, meaning that in large quantities (1000/yr or more) its price is very competitive considering its high reliability and long life characteristics.
