WHAT IS IT?

This is a pilot operated, two stage, poppet type, high temperature, pneumatic, Solenoid Valve. It has all stainless steel or plated parts for long term corrosion resistance. It is capable of continuous duty in ambient temperatures reaching 300 degrees F while controlling the flow of gases at 530 degrees F. The Valve is the normally open type energized to close. It is equipped with a downstream pressure sensing port for position indicating instrumentation. The unit is maintainable in the field with overhaul kits available from stock. The Valve weighs less than 1.40 lb.. The Solenoid is thermally insulated from the Valve Body.
HOW DOES IT WORK?

The Valve is open and flowing normally. An electrical signal of 28 VDC (nominal) to the push-type Solenoid, engages a conical poppet with the second stage Piston exhaust port. The build-up of supply pressure behind the piston together with the remaining electromagnetic Solenoid force, moved the Piston to the Valve-Closed position. Removing the signal allows a Spring to disengage the Pilot from the Piston, venting the closing pressure to the Valve-Open position. Response time is less than 50 ms.
HOW IS IT USED?
In this configuration, the Valve controls the flow of forth stage Turbine Engine Compressor gas through ducting to the Engine inlet structure maintaining that structure at a temperature well above that at which ice will form, hence its name: Anti-Ice Valve. The design has application in any high temperature pneumatic system where simple on-off flow control is required. By connecting a pressure switch to the sensing port, a position indicating signal can be provided. Tolerance for contamination is achieved by close fitting moving parts. There are no dynamic seals.
